A former CIA officer has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for leaking information about various hacking tools to WikiLeaks. The sentence was handed down on Thursday. According to the British media BBC, the officer named Joshua Shulte gave various information about the CIA tool ‘Vault 7’ to WikiLeaks.
The US Department of Justice says Joshua, 35, leaked 8,761 documents to WikiLeaks in 2017. No one has leaked so much information before in the history of the CIA. Apart from this, there are allegations of child molestation against him. He was found guilty.
Using that tool called ‘Vault 7’, intelligence officials can easily hack anyone’s phone. Then they were able to control that phone as well.
Joshua, a former CIA officer, has denied all allegations against him. However, in 2020, 2022 and 2023, he was found guilty in the trial. The charges against him include espionage, computer hacking, contempt of court, making false statements to the FBI and attempted child molestation.
U.S. Attorney Damian Williams said, “Joshua committed a terrible crime against the country.” He did the biggest espionage in American history.
Former CIA officer Joshua Shulte has been in prison since 2018.
