The court sentenced a village doctor named Alamin Hossain to life imprisonment for strangling his wife in Kushtia. At the same time, he was sentenced to another 6 months rigorous imprisonment without paying a fine of 10,000 taka.
Kushtia Special Judge (District and Sessions Judge) Court Judge Md. Ashraful Islam announced this verdict on Monday afternoon in the presence of the accused.
Convicted Alamin is the son of Ahad Ali of Shakdahachar village of Mirpur upazila of Kushtia. Janera Khatun, the other accused in this case and Alamin’s first wife, was acquitted as the charges against her were not proved.

According to the statement of the case and court sources, Alamin married Shiuli Khatun about 10 years ago. They have a daughter. After marriage, he lived with his wife on rent on the second floor of Halsa Clinic and Diagnostic Center (now Halsa Bazar Joy Clinic) of Halsa village of Mirpur Upazila.
Alamin strangled his wife Shiuli Khatun on the night of October 29, 2022 due to a family dispute. Later the people around noticed. Mirpur police station recovered the body and sent it to the morgue. In this incident, the victim’s father Asadul filed a murder case at the police station.
PP Anup Kumar Nandi of the court said that the court sentenced the husband Alamin to life imprisonment as he was found guilty in the case of killing his wife. At the same time, he was sentenced to another 6 months of rigorous imprisonment without paying a fine of 10,000 taka.
