Colorectal cancer is cancer of the rectum and anus. Colorectal cancer occurs when cells lining the colon and rectum grow out of control. These cells form tumors, known as cancer.

This cancer can start anywhere in the colon or rectum. Screening for this cancer is required after the age of 45. Screening can detect this cancer early. The doctor can take measures to cure this disease.

Colorectal cancer is a little different from other cancers. Because screening is preventable. And if detected early, it is very treatable. Colorectal cancer is most often diagnosed in people over the age of 45. However, the symptoms of this cancer are being detected at a much younger age.

This cancer starts as an abnormal growth of colon or rectal tissue, called a polyp. Screening can detect and remove it. 1 in 24 people are at risk of developing this cancer.

Screening
Screening is a test to find cancer before symptoms appear. Screening is the first way to prevent cancer. This cancer is curable if caught early. Colorectal cancer can exist for 10-15 years without any symptoms. Screening has a 91% chance of survival. Those at increased risk should be screened. Both men and women can be screened at the age of 45.

How screening is done
১.
A colonoscopy can be done once every 10 years. The doctor examines the colon (colon and rectum). Sometimes there is blood in the stool, abdominal pain or change in bowel habits. In this case, a flexible tube is inserted into the anus. And a CCD camera or fiber optic camera is installed in front of it. Everything inside can be seen on the screen. It can be removed even if the polyp is as small as one millimeter.

২. Fecal DNA testing can be done once every three years. To perform a stool DNA test, the stool is taken in a special container. And that stool is sent to the lab. This test looks at the stool sample to see if there are changes in the DNA within the cells. Certain DNA changes indicate whether blood is hidden in the stool.

৩. FIT can be done once every year. This is a screening test. It shows the presence of hidden blood in the stool. Samples must be collected and sent to the lab.
