We didn’t deserve to be whitewashed: Hafeez

The Pakistan team’s tour to Australia is a tale of defeat. It doesn’t matter if the format is Test cricket. Pakistan forgot the word “Jai” then. For 29 years, the team did not win a Test match against them on Australian soil.

Pakistan won the last Test in Australia in 1995 with the whirlwind magic of Mushtaq Ahmed. This time after the failed ODI World Cup, PCB has organized the Pakistan team. However, Pakistan was whitewashed in the three-match Test series.

In the third and final Test of the series in Sydney, Shan Masood’s team lost by 8 wickets on the fourth day against Australia. Pakistan had already lost the series by losing the first two matches. This time the mission of avoiding whitewash was before Babar Azam. Amer Jamal’s all-round skill raised hopes but the visitors lost in the end.

Pakistan set a rare record by being whitewashed. Pakistan now holds the embarrassing record for the most consecutive Test defeats by a single country. With this, the Asian team has lost 17 consecutive Tests in Australia. No one else in Test history has such a record.

Pakistan’s head coach and team director Mohammad Hafeez is burning with regret after such a bad performance. According to him, Pakistan did not deserve such a result. After the match, Hafiz said, ‘As a team, we got a few opportunities, which we could not use. We didn’t deserve a 3-0 series loss. We did some really good things as a team in this series, but we didn’t capitalize on the important moments of the match, which is why we lost 3-0.’

“There were some key moments in Sydney that we should have taken advantage of, because those moments could have made the difference. Especially, when they (Australia) lost 4 wickets for 16 runs in Melbourne. The situation could have been such, where we had to chase only 140-150 runs, but it went past 300′- added Hafeez.

Pakistan’s top-order batsmen were unsuccessful throughout the series, and the visitors also missed several opportunities in the fielding. After a failed test series, Pakistan is going to visit Australia’s neighboring country New Zealand. Where Shaheen Shah Afridi is waiting for a new challenge in the T20 series.
