The Election Commission (EC) has warned Shakib Al Hasan, the captain of the national cricket team and Awami League’s nominated candidate for Magura-1 seat, for violating the code of conduct.
This information was informed in a letter signed by EC Deputy Secretary Atiyar Rahman on Monday.
It is said in the letter, Shakib Al Hasan, the Awami League nominated candidate of Magura-1 seat, arrived in Magura from Dhaka on November 29 after a showdown from Kamarkhali area and entered Magura city with a convoy and attended the civic reception, causing obstruction to the movement of people. This is a violation of the Rules of Conduct of Political Parties and Candidates in Parliamentary Elections.
It further states, ‘The Honorable Election Commission has kindly decided to warn you (Saqib Al Hasan) through a letter on the condition of complying with the Election Conduct Rules in the future. The matter is forwarded for your kind notice and necessary action.’
Voting for the 12th National Assembly elections will be held on January 7.
