‘Veerangana Kavya’ on Madhusudan’s 200th birth anniversary

Today (January 25) is Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s bicentenary. And on this occasion, Dhaka University Theater and Performance Studies has organized the Prem Droh of Women, and the drama ‘Birangana Kavya’.

In the evening, it was organized in Naat Mandal. The play is based on Michael Madhusudan Dutt’s Veerangana Kavya composed in Amitrakshar Chanda. Dr. directed the play. Shahman Moishan.

He said that the production has been constructed in the light of the current eco-feminist politics of women’s individuality. Produced in Bengali Desaj Natya, Draupadi Natyashastra and Post Dramatic Drama.

Interestingly, three teachers of the department acted in the play. They are – Wahida Mallick Jolly, Kazi Tamanna Haque Sigma and Umm Sumaiya Moni. Wahida Mallik Jolly returned to the stage after a long time through this play. He said, ‘The play has been produced in a very short time. This was made possible with the help of teachers and students of the department. The next two exhibitions will be held at the same place on January 26 and 27 at 6:30 p.m.

This play is based on the first, second and sixth sargas of the 11 sargas of Michael Madhusudan Dutte’s Veerangana Kavya. Nazrul Research Center, Department of Bengali and Department of Theater and Performance Studies, University of Dhaka assisted in organizing the play.
