Rajapur Upazila Awami League president-editor and a group of leaders-activists have announced to work against Barrister M Shahjahan Omar Bir Uttam, the candidate of boat symbol nominated by Bangladesh Awam League in Jhalkathi-1 (Rajapur-Kathalia) constituency.
In the beginning, the leaders and workers of Upazila Awami League announced that they will work for the boat in accordance with the central decision. But later, ignoring the central decision, upazila Awami League decided to work against the boat on December 18 and made a new resolution. There has been a mixed reaction among the leaders and workers.
Meanwhile, a copy of the resolution has been spread on Facebook. The resolution copy has the signatures of upazila Awami League president AHM Khairul Alam Sarfaraz, general secretary Zia Hyder Khan Liton and at least 25 leaders and workers.
In the copy of the resolution, it is said that the candidate of the boat symbol, Barrister M Shahjahan Omar Bir, did not communicate with the leaders of Uttar Upazila Awami League. For this they have decided to work for independent candidate Moniruzzaman Monir.
It also mentions that Upazila Awami League president AHM Khairul Alam Sarfraz signed the resolution and informed the central Awami League.
Rajapur Upazila Awami League President Ad AHM Khairul Alam Sarfraz said, “Despite getting the nomination, Shahjahan Omar Sahib is conducting the polling process with the leaders and workers of his old party BNP.” Awami League did not contact the leaders-workers or called them anywhere. Because of this, the party leaders and workers have decided not to work for Shahjahan Omar.
