The number of unemployed in the country increased by 40 thousand in these three months from October to December last year. At the end of the fourth quarter of the year, the number of unemployed stood at 2.3 lakh. Among them 15 lakh 70 thousand men and 7 lakh 80 thousand women are unemployed.

This information has emerged in the latest labor force survey of Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS). According to the BBS report, the number of unemployed people in the country at the end of the quarter of December 2022 was 23 lakh 10 thousand.

Economists and industrialists say that various crises have been going on in the economy for almost two years. As a result, the trend of new investment in the country has decreased. Besides, foreign investment has also decreased.

As a result, new employment opportunities are not created. But on the contrary, at the end of every year, a large number of working people are joining the job market. A large part of them are unemployed. The crisis in the economy and the decline in investment have had the biggest impact on employment.

On the other hand regular working population is entering the job market. At present 7 crore 11 lakh 10 thousand people are engaged in work. Only 70 thousand got work in one year.

According to the BBS, those who did no work for at least one hour in seven days, but were ready for work, were marked as unemployed.

It should be noted that the number of unemployed men in the country as a whole last year was 16 lakh 40 thousand; And women were unemployed 830 thousand.
