Two NGO workers jailed for embezzling customer money in Lakshmipur

In Lakshmipur, an NGO called Bangabhumi Social Development Foundation embezzled about 10 lakhs of money from 2700 customers. The mobile court has sentenced two women named Sumaiya Jannat and Fatema Begum to one month imprisonment. It is also alleged that they have taken 60,000 rupees from some people saying that they will get Mujib Centenary House.

On Tuesday afternoon Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Arifur Rahman conducted the mobile court. Those convicted have been sent to the district jail.

Arifur Rahman, Executive Magistrate of Mobile Court, said, ‘Those two women embezzled about 10 lakh taka from 2700 customers in the name of an NGO. Apart from this, they extorted 60,000 taka from some people by saying that they would get the government house of Mujib Shataborsh.’

Arifur Rahman also said, ‘some victims of Bhabaniganj area arrested Sumaiya and Fatema. On receiving the news, a mobile court was organized there. They accepted the responsibility. They have been sentenced to one month imprisonment.’
