The Appellate Division has banned two lawyers from practicing their profession for 4 weeks. This order has been given because pro-BNP lawyers used insulting language in their letter about court boycott programme.
The lawyers are Mohsin Rashid and Shah Ahmed Badal. The four-judge appellate bench headed by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan passed the order on Thursday morning.
Besides, the Supreme Court also ordered them to explain after 4 weeks. The next hearing in this regard is on February 8. If the explanation of the two lawyers is not satisfactory on that day, the sentence may be increased.
BNP-Jamaat supporters and anti-government lawyers staged a court boycott program from January 1 to January 7. They wrote to the Chief Justice on January 1 about the program.
Meanwhile, BNP supporters have planned to display black flags on Sunday to protest the one-sided election and demand resignation from the government.
