There was a clash between supporters of former MP Abul Kalam and supporters of current MP Shahidul Islam Bakul in Bagatipara of Natore. In this incident, the police arrested Lokman Hakim, president of Bagatipara’s Madhgram Union Awami League.
This incident took place in the village of Bhitrabhal of Jamnagar Union of the upazila around 8 o’clock on Sunday night.
Locals said that Lokman Hakim, the Awami League president, was holding an exchange meeting with activists and supporters in the inner village of Jamnagar Union Parishad of Bagatipara upazila. At that time, the supporters of opponent MP Shahidul Islam Bakul went there and attacked them. This led to a clash between Lokman Hakim and his men and supporters of the current MP group. Later, after the locals informed the police about the incident, the police went to the spot and rescued Lokman Hakim and took him to the police station. Since the incident, there has been tension in the area.
District Awami League vice-president, former MP and independent candidate for the 12th Parliament Elections Advocate Abul Kalam Azad said that his supporter Lokman Hakim was exchanging views with the leaders and workers. At that time, some ‘terrorists’ of his rival MP Bakul group attacked them. He doesn’t know much more than that yet.
