Former US President Donald Trump has won the Iowa caucus in the fight to select the candidate of the Republican Party for the next US presidential election. The victory cemented Trump’s path to the presidency. At the same time, for the third time in a row, he reached the threshold of getting the nomination of the Republican Party.

The news agency AFP said the vote was held in the state on Monday local time. US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis lost to Donald Trump in the vote.

The US presidential election is scheduled to be held in November this year. The process of choosing the Republican candidate in this election started from the state of Iowa. British media BBC reported that Republican voters came to the polling station despite minus 23 degree Celsius temperature.

Donald Trump is the most popular among the Republican candidates in this year’s presidential election. Earlier, the latest caucus poll showed that Trump is the first-choice candidate of 48 percent of voters in Iowa.

Many felt that Trump’s popularity had waned due to the ongoing civil and criminal cases against him. But his landslide victory in Iowa dispelled those fears. This victory will no doubt energize the 77-year-old Trump.

Trump received 25,186 votes in the Iowa caucuses. Second place Ron DeSantis received 9,888 votes. And Nikki Hale got 9 thousand 269 votes. Vivek Ramaswamy who is in fourth place got 3 thousand 746 votes.
