One person died after being hit by a truck in a passenger Bismillah Paribahan in front of M Rahman filling station in Ghatkhali on the Dhaka-Amtali highway in Barguna. Another 10 passengers of the bus were injured in this accident.
The road accident took place in front of Ghatkhali M Rahman filling station on the Dhaka-Amtali highway of the district on Thursday around 2:30 pm.
It is known that the deceased person’s name is Afzal Hossain (35). He is the son of Robje Ali of Lebukhali village of Dumki upazila of Patuakhali district. He was the bus assistant of Bismillah Paribahan.
The seriously injured are Tahmina (40), Sohag (30), Riamni (26), Maqsuda (38) and Farzana (16) and the identity of the rest is yet to be known. The injured have been admitted to Amtali Upazila Health Complex Hospital.
Citing eyewitnesses, the police said that a Barisal-bound Bismillah Paribahan bus (Dhaka Metro-11-3884) was crossing the M Rahman filling station at Ghatkhali. At that time, a truck coming from the opposite direction hit the bus and a Mahendra (trolley) vehicle. The bus and Mahendra fell into the ditch on the side of the road. In this, the assistant of the bus was crushed under the vehicle and died on the spot and 10 other passengers of the bus were injured.
After receiving information, fire service personnel, police and locals rescued the passengers and brought them to Amtali Upazila Health Complex. First aid was given to the injured. However, the truck quickly fled the scene.
Amtali Upazila Health Complex Medical Officer Dr. Khosnoor Rabbi said that two of the five injured persons have been sent to Barisal Shebachim Hospital in a critical condition. The other injured were treated and admitted to the hospital.
In this regard, Amtali police station OC Kazi Sakhawat Hossain Tapu said that the body of deceased Afzal is being preserved. Legal action will be taken as per the decision of the family.
