Lemon Detox Diet
The lemon detox diet is one of those odd new fads that’s hard to believe anybody would ever actually try, especially since there’s no scientific evidence behind it. At its core, a lemon-juice-only diet is a liquid fast; participants are only allowed to drink fresh lemon juice or water during their fasting period. The theory is that by removing all solid food from your body, you’ll remove all toxins and build up an immunity against diseases. While there are some people who claim to have benefited from it—and others who say they feel awful—there’s no concrete evidence of these benefits. And when you come right down to it, drinking nothing but juice for days on end doesn’t sound like a lot of fun anyway.
With so many funny diets out there, it can be hard to figure out which ones are worth trying and which ones aren’t. This is the weirdest and funniest diets.
Cotton Ball Diet
In 2012, a small case study came out in Medical Problems of Performing Artists, discussing how a 20-year-old ballerina had lost 10 pounds in two weeks eating only cotton balls dipped in juice. Her urine was black due to her low consumption of fluids, and she had no energy due to starvation. She was eating anywhere from six to 15 balls per day. The doctors who treated her didn’t consider her method a healthy way to lose weight because it failed to meet nutritional needs (basically, she wasn’t getting any actual nutrition.) They also didn’t advise anyone else to do so either. That’s about as official an expert takedown as you can get—and that’s why we put it at number one on our list of the weirdest and funniest diets.
Grapefruit Fast Diet
This diet, promoted by a book called Eat More, Weigh Less, involves eating grapefruit for breakfast and lunch, plus one other meal of your choice. The diet allows you to eat anything you want for dinner, as long as it is not sugary or high in calories. The grapefruit diet claims that after three days of following its plan you will lose up to 15 pounds.
Another funny diet on our list is popular among many celebrities, who use it to maintain their physique. Called Lemon Aid, an allusion to Slim-Fast which promises weight loss with a combination of soy milk and fruit juice (all you need is limes!), it has been referred to by Nicki Minaj who revealed she has been doing lemonade fasts since 2012 on Twitter. A variation of slim-fast consisted of 4 pounds of frozen lemons and water, with participants supposed to drink 1 quart every hour until they vomit. Although lemonade does seem good at first glance, are acidic fruits really healthy? It is the weirdest and funniest diets.
Baby Food Diet
With current trends in eating and meal options, some people may be interested in adopting a baby food diet. Protein-packed baby food can help with fullness for a longer period of time. In addition to being low in calories, green tea is an ingredient in many weight-loss diets. The first thing that sets it apart from others is that it has far less caffeine. Eating is fun, but one downside is that it tends to be more expensive than other foods found in the grocery store. Of course, this means that your body might not know how to process all of those nutrients very well, so you could end up feeling sluggish or even ill if you stick with a baby food diet for too long.
The Alka-Seltzer diet comes to us by way of an ad campaign in England. The basic idea behind it is that taking a tablet of Alka-Seltzer (or similar effervescent antacid) before a meal will trick your body into thinking it’s full, thus reducing overall calorie intake. (Note: It doesn’t really work.) Though it seems bizarre, there’s a very simple explanation for why antacids don’t make you feel full—they contain very few calories and don’t stay in your stomach long enough to interfere with digestion. According to one study conducted at Texas Christian University, you would have to eat nine crushed tablets at every meal just to ingest enough calories for them to matter. If weight loss were as easy as popping some pills, we’d all be thin!
McDonald’s Oreo Diet
Would you believe that an Oreo McFlurry is half of your recommended daily calorie intake? This woman tried to follow a diet where she ate an entire 12-pack of Oreos every day, with regular meals and all. While it seems like you can eat whatever you want on her plan, experts warn against those types of diets because they are so high in calories; there’s no room for any other food in your day. The results from doing something like that might be dire – even life-threatening! Talk about funny diets…people really do come up with them all the time! Sadly enough, though, these kinds of diet plans won’t help you lose weight and won’t make a lasting difference in your health or well-being -but they will provide lots of entertainment, and it is a part of the weirdest and funniest diets !
Ice Cream Diet
You can lose weight by eating ice cream? Believe it or not, there’s some scientific evidence to back up that claim. A study published in 1999 found that overweight men who ate a high-calorie breakfast (scrambled eggs, sausage and buttered toast) every day lost more weight than those who had an omelet or cereal for breakfast. You won’t lose weight by just having ice cream for breakfast. But high-calorie breakfasts are said to kick start metabolism, which allows you to burn more calories throughout your day. So why not have dessert for breakfast? After all, you get to lose weight while enjoying something delicious! Just make sure you don’t eat so much ice cream that you undo any of your hard work with extra calories from other foods. Ice cream is also loaded with saturated fat, so if you want to lose weight, stick to low-fat varieties.

Cabbage Soup Diet
One of our favorite funny diets is a cleanse diet where you basically eat nothing but cabbage soup for days. Dieters on the Cabbage Soup diet are only allowed to eat fresh cabbage, salt, pepper, lemon juice and distilled water—that’s it! It supposedly helps you lose between 2–5 pounds a day (or 2 to 5 kilos). Well…that’s if you follow it correctly, that is. If not, your waistline may suffer in other ways! Aside from all of that weight loss, there doesn’t seem to be any specific health benefits gained from doing a cleanse of any kind. So why bother?
Maple Syrup Diet
If maple syrup is on your menu for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between, then you’re on a maple syrup diet. It’s that simple! This diet consists of 100 percent pure maple syrup as long as you don’t add anything to it. You can use maple syrup in place of any other sweetener. Maple syrup contains trace amounts of minerals such as zinc, iron and calcium. It also has antioxidants that are thought to help prevent cancer and heart disease. While some people might like the taste of pure maple syrup, others may find it too strong or sugary. However, if you use only small amounts with other foods or drinks, you may not notice much difference between sugar and honey at all. But, keep in mind that since maple syrup is mostly sugar (about 87 percent), eating large quantities can still lead to weight gain and cause tooth decay.
