Most of the ministers of the Awami League government have increased in wealth. However, in the last 5 years, only Finance Minister AFM Mustafa Kamal and Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen’s assets have decreased. The wealth of the remaining 21 ministers has increased. During this period, their total assets increased to 841 crore rupees. 1 thousand 47 crores in 2018 but this time it stands at 1 thousand 888 crores. Apart from this, there are liabilities and loans of 8 ministers in the bank.
This information is available according to the affidavits given by the candidates to the Election Commission on the occasion of the 12th National Parliament elections.
According to the law, all the candidates in the National Assembly elections have to submit eight information through affidavit along with the nomination paper. One of these is the details of the candidate’s business and profession, possible sources of income, assets and records of himself and his dependents, information about taking loans from banks and financial institutions. This time too, the income and expenses of the candidates have been calculated accordingly. It has been found that most of the ministers have increased their wealth in terms of wealth.
In the last 5 years, the income of the finance minister has decreased to 1 crore 23 lakh 30 thousand taka. But in 2018 it was 9 crore 2 lakh 12 thousand. The amount of wealth was 70 crores in 2018 but now it has decreased to 24 crores 13 lakhs 74 thousand. And the annual income of the foreign minister is now 26 lakhs, in 2018 it was 36 lakhs.
On the other hand, Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder’s annual income is around Tk 4 crore. In 2018 it was 2 crore 28 lakh. In the last 5 years, his wealth in cash, agriculture, houses and cars, bank and financial institution deposits is now 10 crore 23 lakhs.
Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh’s current wealth has increased from 11 crores to about 22 crores.
Local Government Minister Tajul Islam’s wealth is now Tk 119 crore. In 2018 which was 47 crores. Health Minister Zahid Malek’s wealth has increased by Tk 26 crore. Apart from this, the wealth of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has doubled.
Law Minister Anisul Haque has increased the most wealth in the analysis of eight facts of the affidavit. He has 10 crores 92 lakhs in cash. 5 years ago it was six lakh. His wealth increased from 7 crores to 72 crores in 5 years. Although most of it is ancestral property.
Apart from this, the debt of many ministers has also increased along with the assets. According to the affidavit, the debtors include Liberation War Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Education Minister Dipu Moni, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Humayun, Health Minister Zahid Malek, Food Minister Sadhanchandra Majumder and Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Bir Bahadur Ushaisingh.
