Consumers should not have to pay higher prices because companies violate antitrust laws, according to the US attorney general.

The US Department of Justice and 15 US states are suing Apple.

According to him, the smartphone manufacturer maintains an illegal monopoly on smartphones at the expense of consumers, developers and competing phone manufacturers, foreign news agencies reported today. Apple objected to the lawsuit.

“Consumers should not have to pay higher prices because companies violate antitrust laws,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “If we don’t defend against it, Apple will further strengthen its smartphone monopoly,” he added.

Apple’s shares fell further in response. Before 16:00 our time they were losing almost three percent, while the broader market showed growth.
