The court has granted four-day remand to 11 accused including Dhaka University (DU) Chhatra Dal president Khorshed Alam Sohel and Krishak Dal joint convener Mehdi Hasan Palash in a case filed under the Special Powers Act at the capital’s Newmarket police station.
The court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Tahmina Haque gave this order after the hearing on Thursday afternoon.
Earlier on Wednesday, DB Police arrested 11 leaders and workers of BNP, including the president of Dhaka University Chhatra Dal, in a raid in the capital. The police accused them of trying to sabotage the elections. After the arrest, a night raid was conducted on the printing press of Kantaban based on the information given by them. More than 50,000 leaflets, cocktails and gun powder were seized.
According to the police, petrol and cocktails were found with these 11 people as part of the preparation for sabotage. The law and order forces said that strict vigilance is going on to prevent any sabotage attempt to disrupt the vote.
