Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presented the Begum Rokeya Medal-2023 to five distinguished women for their important contribution and glorious role in various fields, including encouraging women’s awakening.
The Prime Minister handed over the medals to them at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital on Saturday morning. State Minister for Women and Child Affairs Fazilatun Nessa Indira presided over the event. Najma Mubarek, secretary of the ministry, gave a welcome speech.
This time the medal was awarded to the first female vice-chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Khaleda Ekram, in women’s education; Posthumously (Dhaka district), Dr. in the establishment of women’s rights. Halida Hanum Akhtar (Rangpur District); Kamrunnesha Ashraf Dina on socio-economic development of women; Posthumous (Netrakona district), Nishat Majumdar (Lakshipur district) for women empowerment and Ranita Bala (Thakurgaon district) for rural development.
Meanwhile, on the occasion of the day, President Md. Sahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gave separate messages. Various institutions and organizations across the country including the capital Dhaka have taken extensive programs.
