Party President and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has arrived in Sylhet to attend Awami League’s public meeting in the 12th National Election and officially start the election campaign. There is a festive atmosphere around Sylhet around his arrival.
He landed at Sylhet Osmani International Airport at 11:30 am on Wednesday. Then he visited the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA). Later, Prime Minister will go to Sylhet Circuit House after visiting Shahparan (RA) Shrine. After lunch there, the Prime Minister will address the election rally at the historical Aliya Madrasa grounds between 2:30 and 3:00 pm.
Meanwhile, strict security measures have been taken throughout Sylhet to ensure the smooth implementation of Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s election rally in Sylhet. Since morning, security forces have been seen at various points in Sylhet city.
Apart from this, a strong bamboo fence has been built around the gathering place. Separate lanes have been created for the leaders-activists to enter the gathering place. Party leaders and workers from different districts and upazilas of Sylhet division have started coming to the meeting place with procession since morning.
Leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliates are excited in Sylhet around Sheikh Hasina’s visit and Awami League’s first election rally. Prakrutikanya will present several demands to the Prime Minister including development of tourism in Sylhet, conversion of Sylhet Engineering College into a university, creation of smart Sylhet city, establishment of double line train communication in Sylhet.
General Secretary of Sylhet District Awami League Nasir Uddin Khan said that Sylhet has changed drastically in the last 15 years of Awami League government’s various development activities. Construction of Shahjalal Fertilizer Factory, renovation of Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, construction of Bangabandh Hi-Tech Park, internationalization of Osmani Airport, establishment of Sylhet Medical University, construction of 250-bed Sylhet District Hospital, construction of modern jail in Sylhet, upgrading of Dhaka-Sylhet highway to 6 lanes have been implemented. Millions of people in this region are enjoying the benefits.
Sylhet Metropolitan Awami League General Secretary Professor Zakir Hossain said, ‘The Prime Minister announced the outline of the development here when he came to Sylhet. Leaders and activists expect that he will highlight the grand plan for the development of the region in this visit.
Professor Zakir Hossain also said, ‘Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina rushes to the spiritual city of Sylhet to start the election campaign every time. Hayrat Shahjalal and Shahparan (RA) started the election ceremony by visiting the shrine. Through today’s visit, he will spread election festivities across the country.’
