Miscreants set fire to the electoral camp of Awami League boat symbol candidate Shafiqul Islam Shimul in Natore-2 seat. The incident took place in the municipality’s South Hazranator Mahalla on Tuesday night. However, no one was injured.
Locals said that the boat’s supporters went home after election camping on Tuesday night. Then sometime during the night miscreants set fire to the camp. In this, the posters hung in the camp and the tripal around the camp were burnt.
Then on Wednesday morning, locals saw the burnt camp and informed the local Awami League leaders and the police. On receiving the information, the police visited the spot.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nator Sadar Police Station Mizanur Rahman said that he heard the incident from the media workers. He then sent a police team to the spot. They have confirmed the fire there.
The OC said that a police team has already started working to investigate the matter. A case will be filed in this regard and legal action will be taken.
Earlier in the night miscreants detonated cocktails at Shimul’s election camp at Madrasa intersection in Natore town. After receiving the news, Shafiqul Islam Shimul, Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Zobair Habib, Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mizanur Rahman visited the spot.
OC Mizanur Rahman said that at around 11 o’clock on Tuesday night, someone exploded a cocktail at an election camp of boat candidate Shafiqul Islam Shimul in Madrasa Mor area of the city. On receiving the information, the police visited the spot.
The OC said a police team has started an investigation into the matter. Legal action will be taken in this regard.
