Expatriates sent 2166 million dollars or 2.16 billion dollars to the country last February. This is the highest remittance in 8 months as a single month. Previously, remittances had never crossed $2 billion in February.

This information came out in the report of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday.

According to the report, 39 percent more remittances came in February compared to the same period last year. In June last year, remittances to the country reached 219 million dollars. In the first month of this year, January, remittances through banking channels reached 2100 million dollars.

Previously, remittances had never crossed $2 billion in February. Basically, remittances are less in the month of February as the number of days is less.

However, the people concerned believe that remittances are increasing in February due to various reasons, including getting a good dollar rate through the bank.

Bankers said that the demand for hundi has decreased a lot after the elections. Again, the trend of import control continues. However, banks are still buying remittances from foreign exchange houses at the rate of Tk 121 to Tk 122.

Although the rate is fixed at 109 taka 50 paisa through central bank mediation. In this, the export income to the country has increased. Overall, the dollar market situation has improved somewhat.

2020-21 financial year saw the highest remittances in the history of the country. In that financial year, expatriates sent money equivalent to 2 thousand 478 million dollars to the country. In the last financial year 2022-23, the amount of remittance was 2 thousand 161 million dollars.
