The police recovered the hanging body of a girl named Tanjila Akhter (16) from a house in Nawabganj of Lalbagh police station of the capital. The doctor in charge of the emergency department declared him dead when he was taken to the Dhaka Medical College (DMH) hospital in an unconscious state at around 2:30 a.m. yesterday.
Tanjila is the daughter of Ibrahim Khalil of West Rajargaon village of Habiganj police station in Chandpur. At present, she was staying with her aunt in a house at 40/4 Nawabganj in Lalbagh area. He worked as a tailor in a local tailor.
According to the police, after receiving the news, the girl’s unconscious body was recovered from the house of the incident, hanging with a fan with a veil tied around her neck. Later, when he was taken to Dhaka Medical in an unconscious state, the doctor in charge said that he was no longer alive.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the girl was separated from her parents long ago. She had a relationship with a boy from that area. By asking Tanjila’s aunt, it is known that the girl was under some stress about these issues.
Confirming the matter, Deputy Inspector (SI) of Lalbagh Police Station Tarek Aziz said, ‘We initially think that this may be the reason why he did such an act. The body has been kept at Dhaka Medical College morgue for post-mortem to determine the exact cause of death. The exact cause of death will be known after receiving the post-mortem report. Legal process is ongoing in this regard.’
