Before the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) campaign to clear the illegal occupation of the footpath in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, the footpath occupiers have again lined up.
At around 4:30 pm on Wednesday, under the leadership of DSCC Executive Magistrate Jahangir Alam, all the structures of the footpath were demolished with bulldozers. Occupants returned within an hour of the eviction. He started the business again by arranging various stalls. There is no way to understand that a raid was conducted here some time ago.
Wooden tong shops and various food hotels were razed from the pavements during the DSCC operation.
It is alleged that a gang has been collecting huge sums of money by setting up around one and a half hundred illegal shops on the sidewalks in front of the hospital’s emergency department and outside the entrance and outside of the new building.
Members of this gang also collect money by illegally connecting electricity to sidewalk shops. It is alleged that members of the law enforcement agencies and some hospital employees are also involved with the gang.
