15 years ago, he played an innings of 439 runs in India’s Harris Shield inter-school tournament. Sarfaraz Khan came to the attention of everyone by playing such an incredible innings at the age of 12. After that, from Indian Under-19 onwards, he has given great performance in all places of IPL with his ability. He scored more than 900 runs in two consecutive seasons (2019–20 and 2021–2022) in India’s domestic cricket tournament Ranji Trophy. Still could not come to the attention of the Indian selectors.
Finally, Sarfaraz Khan was called up to the Indian team for the second Test match against England yesterday. The right-handed batsman averaged 69.85 in 66 innings in Indian domestic cricket, the fourth highest in cricket history.
After a long period of consistent performances, Sarfaraz got a call-up to the national team due to injuries to Ravindra Jadeja and Lokesh Rahul. Dad Nausad Khan is excited about his son getting a chance in India’s Test team.
He also responded in a video message on social media. Sarfaraz’s father said, ‘You all know that today Sarfaraz has been called to the Test team for the first time. I want to thank everyone, especially the Mumbai Cricket Association where he grew up. Also, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is where he gained experience.’
At the same time, Sarfraz Khan’s father expressed his gratitude to the Indian Cricket Board and fans. “Thank you to the BCCI and the selectors for trusting him and to all his fans who prayed for him and supported him,” he said.
Along with Sarfraz, two other cricketers have been called up to the Indian team. Saurabh Kumar and Washington Sundar got more calls to the team as two experienced cricketers Jadeja and Rahul were dropped.
