Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah of Kuwait died three years after coming to power. The country’s state television reported that he died on Saturday. He was 86 years old at the time of his death.
The news agency Reuters says that the cause of death of Kuwait Emir Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has not yet been announced. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday night as his condition worsened. However, Amir’s physical condition was said to be stable.
Kuwait, an oil-producing Gulf country, is known as an ally of America. They share borders with Saudi Arabia and Iraq.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah became the Emir of Kuwait in September 2020 after the death of his brother Sheikh Sabah after a long stay in power. However, Prince Sheikh Meshaal Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah has been serving as the de facto ruler of the country since 2021. He is now expected to be the Amir.
Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah served in various important positions in Kuwait for several decades before taking over as Emir. In 1990, Sheikh Nawaf was serving as the defense minister when Iraqi President Saddam Hussein attacked Kuwait. He faced challenges from various armed groups during his tenure as Home Minister.
