Video streaming and sharing platform YouTube has been sued in India for publishing harmful video content for children. Maharashtra Police registered the case on Thursday.
The lawsuit alleges that YouTube has allowed mothers and children to promote and share offensive videos. These videos cause loss of social values.
According to the Indian media India Today, the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) warned YouTube about these videos. YouTube has also been asked to provide a list of channels that are publishing such videos.
YouTube and related parties have been given a deadline of January 15 to give this list.
The Indian government continues to be at loggerheads with social media. Earlier last year, various social media, including X, had to come under the fire of the government due to the release of a BBC documentary on Modi.
Besides, Chinese apps are already in some trouble in India. However, social media WhatsApp is quite popular in the country.
