The police recovered the body of an autorickshaw driver named Hridiya from the forest on the roadside in Gazipur’s Sreepur. AFM Nasim, officer-in-charge of Sreepur police station, confirmed that the body was recovered from the forest next to Kornpur Sitpara junction road of Gosinga union of the upazila around 1:15 a.m. on Sunday.
The deceased Hriday (25) was the son of deceased Sujan Mia of Hatikhla village of Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh district. He used to drive autorickshaws on rent in Bagmara (Collegepara) area of Sreepur Municipality.
According to local sources, Hridoy left home by taking an auto-rickshaw around 5:30 pm yesterday. After this, between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM, unidentified assailants killed Hridiya by stabbing him with a sharp knife. Seeing an auto rickshaw lying upside down in the forest by the road at night, the locals went ahead and found Hriday’s bloody body next to the auto rickshaw. After informing the police, the police went to the spot and recovered the body.
Sreepur Police Station Officer-in-Charge AFM Nasim said that the miscreants stabbed the autorickshaw driver to death. A blood stained dagger was recovered from the side of the body. But why and who killed him is still unknown. The body has been sent to Shaheed Taj Uddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Further legal action in this regard is pending.
