An abandoned mortar shell found in Banglabandha land port border area of ​​Tentulia upazila of Panchagarh has been defused. On Wednesday afternoon, the mortar shell was destroyed by the expert team of Army’s Rangpur 66 Infantry Division.

According to BGB sources, on December 22, the mortar shell was found abandoned on a stone site of Banglabandha land port. The mortar shell was recovered from there following the news of the locals. After informing the higher authorities, they took initiative to deactivate the mortar shell. Hundreds of local people flocked there due to the loud sound of the shell explosion.

Shafiqul Islam, commander of BGB Banglabandha BOP, said that a team of 14 members, including Captain Achib and Captain Fattah, commander of disposal team of 6 engineer battalion of Rangpur 66 infantry division of the army, defused the shell.

It is said to be a 51mm packet bomb. However, due to rusting of the shell, no information is known about the construction, said the official.
