On the occasion of the 12th National Assembly elections, the Election Commission (EC) has ordered to keep scheduled banks open on Friday and Saturday as a weekend. Bangladesh Bank has been requested in this regard in a letter signed by Atiyar Rahman, Deputy Secretary of the Election Management Branch, on Wednesday.
In the letter, the EC said, ‘On the two days prior to the polling on January 7 – Friday and Saturday, the Election Commission Secretariat, Returning Officer, Assistant Returning Officer and various officials related to the election as well as the election-related expenses need to withdraw cash from the bank and make financial transactions. will be As a result, the Election Commission has decided to keep such scheduled banks open at the district and upazila levels including Dhaka, Chittagong and other metropolises with a limited number of manpower.
The Election Commission also said, ‘The Election Commission has also decided not to engage bank officials-employees who have been given polling officers or election duties. According to that decision, it is requested to take necessary measures to keep the concerned Scheduled Bank open.
This time the total number of polling stations in 299 parliamentary constituencies is 42 thousand 103. These centers will have 2 lakh 61 thousand 912 polling booths. According to the calculations of the Ministry of Home Affairs, this time 10 thousand 300 centers have been listed as dangerous in the EC.
