A supporter of Jahangir Panchayat (60) died in the election violence in Mathbaria of Pirojpur.
He died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Thursday morning. The deceased is the son of Totambar Panchayat of Nagaravhanga village of Mirukhali Union of Jahangir Panchayat Upazila.
It is known that opponents attacked him on his way from home to Badura Bazar on Wednesday due to election dispute. Later he was rescued and taken to Mathbaria Upazila Health Complex, the doctor on duty sent him to Barisal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital. When the condition worsened, he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital at night. He died at around 8 am on Thursday while undergoing treatment there.
The victim’s son Imran said that he was attacked while campaigning in Badura area of Mathbaria yesterday afternoon. The father suffered serious head injuries. First he was rescued and taken to a local hospital in Pirojpur. When I was brought to Dhaka Medical this morning, the doctor in charge said that my father is no longer alive.
DMK Hospital police camp in-charge Md. Bachchu Mia confirmed the matter by quoting the doctor. He said that the body has been kept in the morgue of the hospital’s emergency department. The matter has been reported to the concerned police station.
