The committee formed by the Directorate of Health Education has started working to investigate the incident of shooting a student in the classroom of Sirajganj Shaheed M Mansoor Ali Medical College. On Tuesday afternoon, a 3-member investigation team came to the college and spoke to the college principal, the accused teacher and the victim along with other students.

In response to a question, the head of the investigation committee said, ‘I cannot say whether the college authorities have neglected their responsibilities regarding the previous complaint. However, they did not give any written report to the superior officer. Verbally informing those who are not in this position is not correct.

Assuring to meet the demands of the students, the head of the investigation committee said, ‘Measures will be taken so that such incidents do not happen in the campus.’

Calling him a drug addict, senior students of the college said that he used to consume drugs at night in the boys’ hostel of the college. Later he was not allowed to enter the hostel. He used to give bad suggestions to girl students. Students did not protest for fear of failing the exam. Being local, his influence was greater.

A few teachers who did not wish to be named said, Dr. Raihan Sharif was involved in Chhatra League politics in Rajshahi Medical College during his student life. He used to think disorderly in the college because of that pressure. The students say that if he attacks again after getting out of bail, the college authorities will have to take responsibility for the security.

College Principal Professor Amirul Islam Chowdhury said, ‘Dr. Raihan Sharif has been warned many times. He was asked to behave like a teacher with students, but he did not listen. The academic council meeting of the college has decided to recommend his dismissal, cancellation of certificate and departmental case.

On the other hand, the students demanded the Prime Minister’s intervention by blocking the road for half an hour this morning. However, on the assurance of the investigation committee and the college authorities, they suspended the movement. If the demands are not met, the classmates of the injured Tamal said that they will take up the agitation program again.

Sword-pistol recovered from accused teacher’s house
