Additional District Magistrate’s Court in Jhalkathi has stopped judicial proceedings due to the fear of snakes hanging from the sofas. The incident took place in the court room located on the second floor of the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Tuesday afternoon. Later the aspirants beat the snake to death.
Member of Jhalkathi District Lawyers Association Adv. Manik Acharya confirmed the truth of the incident.
He said that when the presence of a snake was detected behind the sofa set where the lawyers were sitting while the trial was going on, everyone present in the courtroom started running away in fear. Instantly, the fear of snakes spread among the candidates, lawyers and court officials.
Later, he adjourned the court after asking all the judges to leave safely and left the courtroom. The litigants and lawyers began to rush in panic. At one point, the litigants took the sofa out to the balcony outside the court and beat the snake to death.
Shah Jamal, assistant bench of the court, said that the lawyers saw the snake inside the foam behind the couch of the lawyers while the trial was going on in the courtroom at 12 o’clock. At this time panic spread in the courtroom.
Meanwhile, Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Sazia Afroz, the judge asked everyone to stay safe and left the courtroom. The people present took the sofa out of the assembly room and beat the snake to death. Later the proceedings of the court were adjourned till today.
