The auction for the 17th season of IPL is not long. On December 19, the franchises will enter the competition to attract players to the team in Dubai. Earlier, the Board of Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the names of 333 players on the list for the auction on Monday and Tuesday.
This time Mustafizur Rahman can be the hotcake in the auction. According to Cricket Time, the Bangladeshi pacer is the center of interest of at least six teams.
Of the 333 cricketers awaiting auction, 119 are foreigners. Franchises attract foreign stars to strengthen their team as well as show their financial strength. There are only three Bangladeshi cricketers in the list – Mustafiz, Shariful Islam and Taskin Ahmed. Among the three, it is conceivable that the spotlight will be on Mostafiz.
Cricket Times has analyzed the reasons for the interest in the Bangladeshi pacer. Their vision, off-cutters and slower spins have made Mustafiz a formidable bowler in the T20 format. In recent times, ‘The Fizz’ has impressed his skills in franchise leagues around the world. Whether the wicket is swinging or flat, the Bangladesh pacer has proven himself in T20 on all wickets.
Mustafiz, who has become a trusted name in the death overs, has previously played 48 matches for three different teams in 6 seasons in the IPL. He took 47 wickets at a cost of 7.93 runs per over in the batsmen’s tournament.
Cricket Times has also revealed the names of the six franchises who want to sign Mostafiz in the auction. They have placed Delhi Capitals above all. In the 2022 auction, Delhi pulled the Bangladeshi pacer into the team for Rs 2 crore. But he could not do justice to his name there. He has taken only 9 wickets in 10 matches in Delhi jersey. However, Delhi can again pull Mustafiz to add depth to the team’s bowling unit along with Anrikh Norkia, Lungi Ngidi and Ishant Sharma.
Mustafiz is also in the eye of former team Sunrisers Hyderabad. Although the franchise has already fielded pacers like Umran Malik and Fazal Haque Farooqui, it still wants to bet on Mostafiz to pick up wickets early in the match or as a death over specialist.
The Bangladeshi pacer is also on the interest list of Royal Challengers Bangalore, who are looking for their first IPL title. Mustafiz can bowl at any stage of the match. That’s why Kohli’s team wants Fiz alongside Harshal Patel, David Willey.
On the other hand, there is currently no foreign pacer in Kolkata Knight Riders. That’s why the franchise has a special focus on the Bangladeshi pacer. Mostafiz won the 2021 IPL for Rajasthan Royals. He was one of the team’s best bowlers with 14 wickets in 14 matches that season. Currently Rajasthan’s bowling unit is strong but they have no foreign options except Trent Boult. The party can reach out to Mostafiz to solve this problem. Apart from this, Lucknow Super Giants are preparing to bring Mustafiz to the team to crush the opponent’s morale in the slog overs.
In this auction, the base price of Mustafiz has been fixed at 2 crore rupees. However, Mustafiz will not have to be sold at the base price if he is on the interest list of the parties.
