According to the Chairman of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Munim said, ‘We are constantly automating the tax payment process and the Income Tax Act-2023 has been implemented. The new law has been presented in a simple manner to make the service easier.

He said these things at the ceremony of awarding tax cards and mementos to the best taxpayers at the Bangabandhu International Conference Center in the capital on Wednesday.

The organization gave awards and tax cards to the best 141 tax paying individuals and organizations in the fiscal year 2022-23. Jorda businessman Kaus Mia got the best tax payer award this time. Besides, 75 other people were awarded in different categories. 65 companies get tax card in different categories for paying maximum tax. Since 2009, National Board of Revenue (NBR) has been awarding large tax payers to encourage income tax payment.

Commenting that the challenge of transition in developing countries has become a headache for the government, Finance Secretary Khairuzzaman Majumder said, ‘As a result of transition, the capacity of the export sector will decrease, and there will be a negative impact on revenue income.

NBR chairman said that the emphasis is on increasing income tax collection to face the challenge. Expansion of income tax department has started to face the challenge. Simplifying the process of paying taxes. Emphasis is on automation of revenue systems.

The finance secretary said, after the transition from LDCs to developing countries, there will be various challenges in trade. Duty-free benefits for exports will decrease in Europe and America. Government should reduce the cash assistance given to exporters. Besides, the import duty should be reduced. Again, reducing import duty will have a negative impact on revenue collection.

He believes that it will be possible to achieve the target of revenue income of Tk 4 lakh 30 thousand crore taken by NBR in the current financial year 2023-24. He said that the government has already taken various steps so that Bangladesh does not suffer due to the global financial situation.

Tax card holders will get state benefits and preferences in various areas. For example, use of CIP lounges at airports, bookings in all residential hotels including star hotels, cabins in government hospitals for self, spouse and dependent children, tickets for government vehicles by air-rail-sea and invitation to events organized by local governments including national, city corporations, municipalities. The validity of this tax card is one year.

Meanwhile, the NBR chairman suggested that taxpayers should be informed directly or raised in a public hearing if there is a problem in paying taxes.
