Times are not going well for the England national cricket team. West Indies lost an ODI series on tour for the first time in 25 years. The English are trailing by 2-1 in the ongoing five-match T20 series. The England team, which is such a disaster in the field performance, has faced a nightmare incident off the field. The shooting happened in front of the English team hotel on Monday local time.
The two teams will take the field in the fourth T20 of the series today at 2 pm Bangladesh time. Ahead of this match, Jos Buttlers arrived at the Hyatt Regency, Washington Road, Trinidad and Tobago. But there is a problem. The shooting happened at 1:20 pm local time on Monday. One died on the spot. The site of the shooting is just a few yards from the Butlers’ team hotel.
England team is suffering from insecurity in such an unexpected situation. The butlers are living almost as prisoners in the hotel. The British government’s travel advisory has described the incident as the highest level of violence. He also said that the spread of various gangs and incidents of shootings around Port of Spain are increasing.
Shootings have been on the rise in Trinidad and Tobago in recent times. The country ranked sixth globally in overall crime rate and ranked eleventh in gun homicides.
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) is also worried after such an unexpected incident at a place within the security zone. The ECB has asked the butlers to remain within the four walls of the Hyatt Regency except during matches and practice for the safety of the players.
However, immediately after the incident, the security system of the English has been strengthened. ECB security staff reminded to follow safety protocols. They advised limited movement of common people outside of work.
