A cargo ship carrying 820 tonnes of coal has sunk in Bhairav ​​river at Nawapara in Jessore. An accident took place at Sardar Mill Ghat in Nadi Port on Friday evening.

The importer of the coal in the sunken cargo was Messrs. Sheikh Brothers of Nawapara. It is believed that the bottom of the cargo ship burst and sank.

Nawapara Port Deputy Assistant Director Masud Parvez said that 820 tons of coal was brought to Nawapara Port by a cargo ship named MVR Razzak from Mongla Port on December 11. Since then the ship was anchored at Sardar Mill Ghat.

Masud Parvez also said that it is believed that the bottom of the ship burst sometime around Friday afternoon. As it slowly sinks, the workers notice the matter. But it was not possible to rescue it due to the pull of the tide. The matter has been reported to higher authorities.
