Home country Colombia gave a unique honor to pop star Shakira. A statue of the singer has been installed in Barranquilla, her birthplace.

The sculpture by Yino Marquez depicts a dance scene from the pop star’s famous 2005 music video ‘Hips Don’t Lie’. Shakira’s waist-swinging dance pose in a bikini is captured in the sculpture. The 21 feet tall sculpture was unveiled on December 26 in a riverside park in the city. Shakira’s parents were present during the unveiling of the sculpture.

The bronze and aluminum sculpture bears a eulogy about Shakira.

The artist who won three Latin Grammy Awards in 2023 lives in Miami, USA. Shakira’s post revealed photos and videos of the sculpture. One of the pictures also shows his father and mother taking pictures in front of the structure.

In the caption of the picture, the singer wrote, ‘I am very happy to see my parents next to the sculpture. Especially for my mother, because it’s her birthday.’

Another photo shows Shakira’s parents, her brother and the mayor of Barranquilla conversing in front of the sculpture.

Meanwhile, Spotify has dedicated September 29 to Shakira to mark the unveiling of the new sculpture. Her song is the most streamed Latin female musician on the popular music platform.
