Shakib returning against Sri Lanka?

Shakib Al Hasan was not in the recently concluded T20 and Test series against Sri Lanka. At that time, he said that he would not play in the Test. For that reason, the left-handed all-rounder was not included in the team for the first Test of the ongoing series in Sylhet. But this time, different things are heard. Shakib may return in the second Test against the Lankans by changing his decision. According to a BCB source, the 36-year-old all-rounder expressed interest in playing the last match of the series in Chittagong.

Earlier, Shakib was not even in the series against New Zealand. However, he played BPL with eye problems. After that, the star all-rounder rested again from the T20 and ODI series against Sri Lanka. While announcing the squad for the Test series, BCB said that Shakib will not be available.

Shakib recently returned to the field with the Dhaka Premier League after resting. According to cricket media Cricbuzz, Shakib has informed the board of his interest in playing the second Test against the Lankans, withdrawing from the previous decision. But the policy makers have to think about his fitness issue.

A top BCB official told Cricbuzz on Friday, ‘Since he (Shakib) wants to play, we are hopeful that he will be available for the second Test against Sri Lanka. I think he has enough time to get fully prepared.’

If Shakib returns to the team for the second Test, it will act as an additional tonic for the Bangladesh team. Earlier, experienced Mushfiqur Rahim was dropped from the first Test team. He was injured in practice before the match. Therefore, Bangladesh will be able to utilize Shakib’s experience in the Test which started in Chittagong on March 30.
