Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader said that today is the last day for withdrawal of candidature, the distribution of seats will be finalized by 4 o’clock this afternoon. He said, Awami League candidates must withdraw their candidature in those constituencies where compromise will be made.
Obaidul Quader said these things in a briefing on contemporary issues at the Awami League president’s political office in Dhanmondi of the capital today.
Quader said, ‘Awami League candidates must be withdrawn in those constituencies where there will be compromise. Awami League has an agreement with Jatiya Party. The decision was taken sitting down. There should be unity among like-minded people. Seat allotment will be decided by 4 pm. We have proposed. They have expectations. We have to think about how many we can give.’
Taking a dig at the Victory Day, Moin Khan called it the Day of Defeat, referring to Quader, saying that it is a day of defeat for BNP and Jamaat, not for Bangladesh.
Quader said that in the Westminster system, the government performs routine duties in elections, same is happening in Bangladesh.
Questioning those who call the election a divisional election, Kader said, how can an election in which 28 parties participate, in which 2,260 candidates participate, be a divisional election?
