The Federal Security Service (FSB) of Russia reported this Thursday on the arrest in the city of Saint Petersburg of four members of the “terrorist organization” Russian Volunteer Corps, which is pro-Ukrainian, for allegedly planning attacks in Russia, including the poisoning of soldiers.

“The FSB has discovered and eliminated the illegal activities on the territory of St. Petersburg of a secret cell of the Ukrainian paramilitary organization Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK), recognized as a terrorist in the Russian Federation, which acted in the interests of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine,” he noted.

The detainees, according to the FSB, “they intended to poison food products intended to be sent as humanitarian aid to military personnel of the Russian Armed Forces located in the zone of a special military operation and to residents of new territories of Russia with a highly toxic chemical.”

In addition, the detainees carried out a reconnaissance of critical infrastructure located in the area. “in order to subsequently prepare terrorist acts”. As a result of these arrests, he has initiated an investigation under the Penal Code for participation in the activities of a terrorist organization, as reported by the Interfax news agency.

Last week, the US Embassy in Moscow warned of a “imminent” risk of terrorist attack against large concentrations of people in the Russian capital, which is why it recommended that American citizens avoid crowds.

In the same day, The FSB announced that it had foiled a planned attack by an alleged cell of the Islamic State terrorist group against a synagogue in Moscow, noting that those allegedly involved were in the province of Kaluga, where members of the alleged cell have been “neutralized.”

Russian security forces thwarted a second terrorist attack allegedly planned by Ukraine’s special services “with the participation of a citizen recruited in Belarus”according to the government agency, which has clarified that said citizen was on the authorities’ search and capture list.
