Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu commented that Roshan Ershad did not come to the election on his own decision. He made this comment at the party office in Banani on Tuesday afternoon. At this time, Chunnu again rejected the allegation of disunity in Jatiya Party.

Earlier, Jatiya Party chief sponsor Roshan Ershad went to Ganabhaban to meet Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday afternoon. His spokesperson Mamunur Rashid and his son Saad Ershad were with him at that time. In the meeting, Roshan complained that party chairman GM Quader took the leadership of Jatiya Party.

In a statement sent to the media after the meeting with the Prime Minister, Roshan said, ‘I have met Begum Roshan Ershad, the founder co-chairman and main sponsor of Jatiya Pati and the Leader of the Opposition in the Parliament, with the Leader of the Parliament and the Hon’ble Prime Minister and told GM who has illegally usurped the leadership of Jatiya Pati. And after finalizing the nomination of Jatiya Pati in the parliamentary elections, Sukaushle took the leadership of the party by removing me and my son Ershad’s son Saad Ershad and the important leaders of the party.

Regarding this meeting, the general secretary of the party Mujibul Haque Chunnu said, ‘What Roshan Ershad said to the Prime Minister, and what the Prime Minister said is their business. I have no comment on this. We have no activities in alliance or seat sharing. We have nominated ourselves on behalf of the Jatiya Party and are going to the elections in our own way.’

At that time, Roshanpanthi leaders were mistreated to take the nomination form, he rejected the allegation.

Chunnu said, Roshan Ershad is the main sponsor and honorable person of Jatiya Party. He was expected to participate in the elections. It was also said to send the form to Roshan Ershad’s home, but he did not show interest.

Jatiya Party announced candidates for 288 seats last month. This time, Chairman GM Quader got the party’s nomination from Dhaka-17 and Rangpur-3, two constituencies of Jatiya Party founder late Hussain Muhammad Ershad.

After Ershad’s death, his son Rahgir Almahi Saad Ershad won the by-election in Rangpur-3 constituency in October 2019 and became a member of Parliament. It was assumed that this time too he will be nominated for this seat.

Mymensingh-4 seat was kept vacant for chief patron Roshan Ershad. But Roshan Ershad and Saad Ershad refused to vote for the preferred seat.

On November 15, the election commission announced the schedule of the 12th national parliament election. According to the schedule, the vote will be held on January 7.
