Cristiano Ronaldo doesn’t know exactly how many records he has set. Some milestones are being added next to the name of the Portuguese legend as soon as he gets on the field. Al Nasr secured a 4-1 win over Al Riyadh in a Saudi Pro League match on Friday.
Ronaldo has seen a new milestone in this match as well. Playing in his 1200th match in his professional career, he colored the moment with great goals and assists.
The Portuguese superstar expressed his gratitude to all those who have helped him on this long career path. After the match, he wrote in his Instagram post, ‘Three more points. Thanks to my teammates. It is because of them that I have reached the milestone of 1200 matches. What a wonderful journey. But our work is not done yet.’
Ronaldo is still playing great at the age of 38. He is the top scorer of the Saudi Pro League this season with 16 goals in 15 matches. However, his team Al Nasr is second in the points table. Ronaldo is 7 points behind Al Hilal at the top.
Scoring milestones is not new for Ronaldo. Earlier in February 2020, Ronaldo scored a great goal in the 1000th match of his career. The Portuguese star was wearing a Juventus jersey.
In June this year, Ronaldo became the first player to play 200 matches for the national team. He is also the highest scorer in international football with 128 goals.
The star who played for Manchester United, Real Madrid and Juventus in his club career also played the highest number of matches (183 matches) in the Champions League. He is also the highest goalscorer (140 goals) in the competition for European supremacy.
In December 2021, Ronaldo became the first footballer to score 800 goals in his professional career while playing in his second term at Manchester United. Recently he also crossed the 850 goal mark.
He played a maximum of 438 matches in the jersey of Madrid to reach the milestone of 1200 matches in professional football. Besides, Ronaldo played 346 matches for United, 31 matches for Sporting Lisbon, 134 matches for Juventus, 46 matches for Al Nasr and 205 matches for Portugal.
However, Ronaldo is far from the record for the most matches played in a competitive match. Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton tops the list with 1390 matches. Shilton, who played a maximum of 125 matches in the England jersey, is, however, remembered for another reason. In the 1986 World Cup, Maradona’s historic goal ‘Hand of God’ was scored by avoiding Shilton. However, Shilton’s match numbers are unclear. Various football-based websites reported 1390 matches, Shilton X (former Twitter) confirmed 1387 matches.
