Robbery at expatriate’s house in Madaripur, 2 women injured

An Italian expatriate’s house was robbed in Madaripur’s Rajair. At that time, the robbers looted cash and gold with weapons. They cut and injured two housewives due to obstruction. An injured housewife was sent to Faridpur Medical Center in critical condition.

The incident took place at the house of Yunus Jamaddar, an Italian resident of Sutarkandi village of Bajitpur union of Rajair upazila, around 1 pm on Saturday. Injured Anjana Begum is the wife of Yunus Jamaddar of the same village and Riya Akhtar is the wife of Yunus’ younger brother Palash.

According to the victim’s family, housewives Anjana Begum and Rhea Akhtar were sleeping after having dinner on Saturday. At around 1 a.m., the robber entered the house by cutting the window grill. At this time, they tied the face and hands of both with a veil. Later, armed with weapons, they broke the cupboards and drawers and looted cash and gold. Anjana and Riya were cut and injured when they were interrupted. The robbers fled when the people around them came forward on their screams. Later, two injured housewives were rescued and first admitted to Rajair Upazila Health Complex. When the condition worsened, Anjana was sent to Faridpur Medical for better treatment.

Jamaddar’s wife Noor Nahar Begum said, “The bandits looted Tk 9 lakh cash and 25 bags of gold from the house at gunpoint. Apart from this, two people were also cut and injured. Now we all in the family are suffering from insecurity.’

Madaripur Superintendent of Police (SP) Masud Alam said that the police visited the scene and the hospital after receiving information about the robbery. Legal action will be taken if the victim’s family files a written complaint in this regard.
