Reyes Martí, the first female pyrotechnician who fired in the Town Hall square, in 2001has returned today, International Women’s Day to light the fuse of a mascletà that has joined the celebration of this anniversary that Valencia, on this occasion, has united with the demand for gender equality in sport.

“Today’s mascletà will be very Valencian and will be dedicated from beginning to end to women”, in the words of the Burriana pyrotechnician who has fired with ecological material, “as a nod to the Green Capital of Europe held by the city of Valencia ”.

The purple color of the eighth mascletá of the Fallas, which alludes to the fight of women for equality and against discrimination, has also been present on the balcony of the City Hall, where today women leaders from the world of sports gathered, protagonists of the ‘Women and Sports Forum 2024’ that the mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, inaugurated, at 12:30 p.m., in the Crystal Hall. Among these pioneers of elite women’s sports were, among others, the basketball player Anna Gómez; the gymnast Belén Esterlich; the athletes Marta Fernández de Castro and Concha Montaner; the handball player Suhana Bayonas, or the rugby player, Kiara Exposito, and the Paralympic athlete Ruth Aguilar.

These athletes have been joined by the footballers of the Valencia Women’s Football Club, who have also shared space with other pioneering women in other fields such as, for example, Nuria Cidoncha and Sara Mansanet, representatives of the Audiovisual Women’s Association-CIMA. .

The mayor of Valencia, María José Catalá, was accompanied by the second vice president and councilor of Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camareroand by the Superior Chief of Police of the Valencian Community, Jorge Marti Rodríguez, who has gone to the balcony accompanied by uniformed women.

Finally, the protagonists of the festival, the major falleras of Valencia, María Estela Arlandis and Marina García, have experienced the eighth shooting of this month of March together with representatives of the Local Fallera Board of Burriana, and ten citizens who have lucky results in the draw carried out by the Fallas Department to bring these pyrotechnic shows closer to the general population.
