The court ordered five juveniles to be imprisoned for 10 years for raping a schoolgirl in Natore’s Baraigram upazila. Judge Muhammed Abdur Rahim of Natore Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal gave this verdict around 11:30 am on Thursday.
The convicts are in the same upazila. Their age is between 16 and 17 years. Court Special PP Add. Anishur Rahman confirmed this information.
According to the affidavit of the case, the accused are known as scoundrels of the area. They used to make love proposals to the school girl almost while going to school. The scoundrels were enraged when their offer was rejected. At one stage, on the night of February 20, 2013, miscreants went to the house of the schoolgirl and opened the door of the house and took away a sugarcane next to the house. Schoolgirls were raped there. Later, on the scream of the victim, the people of the girl’s house along with the neighbors went to the spot and rescued her.
After the rescue, the victim told the details of the incident to the parents. In this incident, on February 21, the schoolgirl’s father filed a rape case in the name of 5 people at the Baraigram police station. After filing the case, the accused were arrested and interrogated by the police and they gave a confessional statement.
After taking the evidence of the case for almost 11 years, the judge of the court sentenced each of the accused to 10 years imprisonment in the presence of the accused today.
