Rajshahi-1: Independent candidates are challenging the three-time MP

Nine people are contesting for Rajshahi-1 seat in the 12th National Assembly elections. Independent candidates are challenging the three-time MP. From Awami League leaders to film stars, everyone is running to the voters’ door with promises of development. However, the local people will support the worthy person, not by making promises.

Three-time parliamentarian Omar Farooq Chowdhury is a candidate for Rajshahi-1 constituency with Tanor-Godagari. This time eight other candidates including two independent candidates of Awami League are trying to break his stronghold.

Former Awami League president of Tanor upazila Golam Rabbani and actress Mahia Mahi are among the independent candidates. Who will go to Jatiya Sangsad from this seat, from the tea shop to the neighborhood, is the discussion now.

Independent candidate Sharmin Akhtar Nipa alias Mahia Mahi thinks that Ganajoa is on their side. And BNM candidate hoping to get good response.

Independent candidate Mahia Mahi said, I am 100% hopeful about winning. If you ask anyone coming here you will know they want a change. They want a new man for change. They want someone they can confide in, someone they can talk to.

BNM candidate in this seat. Shamsuddoha Babu said, there will be obstacles, he does not mean that there should be obstacles at all. I am getting good response and I will win with huge votes inshallah.

On the other hand, Awami League candidate Omar Farooq Chowdhury is confident that people will trust the boatmen again.

Omar Farooq Chowdhury said, ‘I don’t see it as who is there and who is not. What I think is that we, the common people, want to walk on the known path. I have been blessed three times by the people of this country. I believe the people of this country want to walk on that familiar road.’

But the voters say that the candidates are making various promises. However, they will choose a qualified candidate who will work for the development of the area, not on promises. Besides, they also have confidence in the new generation of candidates.

Total voters in Rajshahi-1 constituency are 4 lakh 39 thousand 865 people. Jatiya Party’s Md. is also in the fight for votes. Shamsuddin, Trinamool BNP’s Jamal Khan, Cultural Liberation Alliance candidate Basir Ahmed, BNF’s Al Sadat and NPP candidate Nurunnessa.
