The Gazipur Metropolitan Detective Police has arrested seven people, including Councilor Hasan Ajmal Bhuiyan of Ward No. 28 of Gazipur City Corporation, for their involvement in the sabotage of the railway line in Gazipur. An official of Metropolitan Intelligence Police, who did not want to be named, confirmed this information.
An official of the Metropolitan Police said that details will be given in a press conference on Sunday afternoon.
Seven coaches of the Mohanganj Express from Mohanganj in Netrakona to Kamalapur in Dhaka were derailed last Wednesday around 4 am when the railway line was cut in Bankharia area between Bhawal Gazipur and Rajendrapur railway station in Gazipur. In this train passenger Aslam Mia was killed and 5 people including the loco master were seriously injured. Besides, more than half a hundred passengers were injured in that incident.
A case was registered in this incident at the Kamalapur Railway Police Station last Thursday. Railway official Ashraful Alam filed the case against unknown persons in Kamalapur police station accusing him of sabotage and murder as the plaintiff.
Three separate committees have been formed by the Railways, Gazipur District Administration and the Ministry of Railways to investigate the incident.
