A mobile court raided 3 rice warehouses in Benapole, Jessore as part of a crackdown on hoarders to stabilize rice prices nationwide. Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Farhana Islam conducted the mobile court on Thursday afternoon.
A fine of Tk 20,000 has been collected by carrying out raids on ‘Bhuiya Traders’, ‘Haji Store’ and ‘Lipu Enterprise’ in Benapole Bazar. The charges of not having price list, increasing the price and stocking a large amount of rice were charged. Many rice shopkeepers and traders have been warned.
In addition, the upazila magistrate Farhana Islam said that public awareness is being increased to stop buying and selling of fairly distributed rice. He also said that this campaign will continue.
Besides municipal sanitary inspector Rasida Khatun, members of police and consumer rights department and local business leaders were present during the operation.
