A 15-month-old sick child, Annie, died due to a quarrel between her parents in Habiganj. The bigoted father snatched the baby from the truck and threw it into the canal under the bridge on the side of the highway. Meanwhile, when Annie’s half-brother tried to throw away the baby Safi, the mother managed to save his life by holding him.
In this incident, Annie’s mother Yasmin Begum filed a murder case accusing the child’s truck driver father Imran Ahmed and truck helper Badal.
The plaintiff in the case said that Imran Ahmad, a resident of Sarighat area of Sylhet, is a truck driver by profession. Three years ago, he married Yasmin, who had abandoned her husband in Gordan village of Jaintapur upazila in the district.
Yasmin has a 3-year-old son named Safi at home with her previous husband. After 3 years of marriage with Imran, their daughter Annie was born. But Imran divorced Yasmin a few months ago due to marital discord between husband and wife. Later, through the mediation of local tutors, he accepted the decision to pay Yasmin 2,000 taka per month for the maintenance of her daughter. According to that the truck driver Imran was also paying this money every month. Lately Yasmin contacted her ex-husband Imran on January 29 due to one month delay in payment. At the same time informed about the illness of the daughter.
Imran said that he will come and treat the child himself later. According to him, on January 29, Yasmin was staying with her son and daughter in Daspara area of Shahparan police station in Sylhet.
At around 9 o’clock that night, Imran took Yasmin and two children in the truck to see the doctor. At that time, there was also a truck driver named Badal.
Yasmin claimed to the police that she had an argument with Imran while driving the truck. At one point, Imran stopped the truck near a bridge west of Kagapasha market in Kagapasha union of Baniachong upazila of Habiganj district late at night after driving for about 80 km. After that, Yasmin snatched the sick child Annie from the truck and threw her into the canal under the bridge. He also tried to throw away his infant son Safi. Yasmin saved Safi by holding hands and legs. At one point, Yasmin fainted due to the grief of her child. He did not even know where they were staying at that time.
According to Yasmin, Imran and helper Badal fled with the truck after dropping Yasmin and her son in Tilagarh area of Sylhet in the morning. When he went to Shahparan police station in Sylhet to report this incident, the police did not take it into account.
Meanwhile, on the morning of January 30, Baniachong police station recovered the body of baby Annie after receiving information. As his identity was not found at that time, the body was sent to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for autopsy. The body was kept in the morgue overnight and the police completed the autopsy the next day on Wednesday. Later, when it was handed over to Anjumane Mofidul Islam as a bequest, the organization buried the child in the Habiganj graveyard.
On the other hand, when the news of the rescue of the unidentified child’s body was published on Facebook and various media, Yasmin and her relatives confirmed where the baby Annie was dumped on Wednesday night. Later they left at night and came to Baniachong police station around 3 pm today.
This morning, with the help of Kagapasha Union Parishad Chairman Ershad Ali, Annie’s mother Yasmin filed a murder case in Baniachong police station accusing her ex-husband Imran Ahmed and helper Badal of the killer truck driver in the case of child murder.
In this regard, Baniachong Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Delwar Hossain said, “The truck used during the incident has been seized and the police are trying to arrest the killer Imran and the helper Badal.”
