A report has been sent recommending to take peaceful action against four leaders of district and upazila Awami League along with Awami League nominated candidate of Barguna-1 constituency Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu for violation of electoral conduct rules. District Election Inquiry Committee Chairman, Joint District and Sessions Judge Ahmad Sayeed has sent three reports to the Election Commission Secretary. District Election Officer Md. Abdullah Hai Al Hadi confirmed the sending of the report.
The report of the District Election Inquiry Committee by Member of Parliament Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu of Barguna-1 Constituency, Barguna District Awami League General Secretary Md Jahangir Kabir, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Siddikur Rahman, General Secretary Shah Mohammad Oli Ullah Oli and Amtali Upazila Awami League President Mayor Matiar Rahman. Punitive action has been recommended against him for violating the electoral code of conduct.
In the report sent to the Election Commission Secretary on December 7, it is mentioned that Sadar Upazila Awami League held a special extended meeting on December 7 from 10 am to 5 pm at the Bangabandhu Complex auditorium in Barguna without the permission of the District Commissioner and District Returning Officer. Awami League’s nominated candidate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu gave an election campaign speech at that meeting. Also Barguna District Awami League General Secretary Md Jahangir Kabir, Sadar Upazila Awami League President Siddiqur Rahman, General Secretary Shah Mohammad Oli Ullah Oli have violated the election code of conduct by making campaign speeches.
The report recommended a fine of Tk 15,000 for electoral irregularities under Sections 6(b) and 6(c) of the Code of Conduct 2008 and Rule 17 of the Election Conduct Rules. Earlier on December 4, the Election Commission sent another report of the Election Inquiry Committee to the Secretary.
In that report, Awami League nominee Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu of Barguna-1 constituency and his supporter Amtali Upazila Awami League President Matiar Rahman violated the election code of conduct on November 28 from 10 am to 5 pm for disrupting public traffic by taking out large public gatherings in Amtali municipality and city. Charges are filed.
In this, Amtali Upazila Awami League President and Mayor Matiar Rahman and Barguna-1 Constituency Awami League nominated candidate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu were called to the Election Commission and recommended to take reprimand.
Also, on December 3, another report mentioned that on September 30, supporters of Awami League nominee Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu’s candidate Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu’s supporter Zahirul and Khokon beat independent candidate Golam Sarwar Tuku’s supporter Md. Shahidul Islam and Rajib Mia at Abdur Rahim’s shop on the north side of the bridge in Amjed Market of Burichar Union in Barguna. by doing
In this incident, Rule 11(c) of Rajnaitak Party Candidates Conduct Rules 2018 has been violated. As a complaint has been lodged at Barguna Sadar police station, both the candidates are recommended to be summoned to the Election Commission and warned. Amtali Upazila Awami League president Matiar Rahman admitted the mistake and gave a written reply.
When asked about this, District Election Investigation Committee Chairman Ahmed Saeed said, ‘Reports have been sent to the Election Commission Secretariat in three cases. Written statements of four people including Amtali Upazila Awami League President Matiar Rahman have been taken in these incidents. However, some Awami League leaders including supporters of the Awami League nominated candidate threatened independent candidates in the extended meeting of Taltali and Amtali upazila Awami League in violation of the code of conduct. Data and evidence of these have been collected. A show cause notice will be issued to Awami League leaders supporting the Awami League nominated candidates soon.
Amtali Upazila Awami League President Matiar Rahman admitted to giving a written statement, but he did not receive calls to the mobile phone number used by Dhirendra Debnath Shambhur, the Awami League nominated candidate of Barguna-1 constituency, to inquire about the violation of the code of conduct in the election.
